Filming at the Cinespace Film Studios came to a halt in the early hours of Tuesday when a platform used for a chase sequence crashed to the ground, injuring 12 actors dressed as zombies and four members of the production team.
Emergency services were called to the scene, although they had trouble establishing how badly the actors had been hurt due to the fake bandages and blood they were wearing for their roles as the undead in the upcoming fifth installment of the film franchise.
The injured were taken to local hospitals for treatment, but most returned to work hours later.
One female extra remained under medical supervision, and the film’s star Jovovich felt compelled to visit the injured woman in hospital after the terrible incident.
In a series of posts on her Twitter.com page, she writes, “It’s been a horrible day here at ‘camp evil’. As a lot of u (sic) have heard, there was an accident n (and) a bunch of our amazing zombie extras fell in a chase sequence. One incredibly brave woman is still in the hospital, but she is recovering well, thank the Lord. The good news is, all our other extras came back after receiving medical attention at different hospitals and wanted to continue shooting! So that made us feel better to see how passionate they are! We are praying for Akiko, who is still in the hospital n (and) will go see her in a little while to make sure she’s feeling ok. Oh man. I’ve been feeling sick to my stomach all day waiting for news on how she is…”
She later adds, “On my way to see Akiko at the hospital! I’m going to show her all your incredibly sweet and supportive messages! Thanks again for all your thoughts and wishes for everyone involved!”
