Filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is reportedly in talks to direct the live-action version of The Sword In The Stone.
The film, written by Game of Thrones‘ Bryan Cogman, will focus on King Arthur’s relationship with his magical mentor, Merlin the wizard, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The original 1963 animated movie was adapted from T.H. White’s 1938 novel of the same name.
28 Weeks Later director Fresnadillo isn’t the only filmmaker in negotiations to develop a movie inspired by the story – Ridley Scott is also in talks to lead The Merlin Saga, which will be based on American author T.A. Barron’s books of the same name, about the origin story of the mythical wizard.
In addition to directing the project, Ridley will also produce The Merlin Saga under his Scott Free production company banner.
