Judd Apatow Once Laughed in Kanye West’s Face

Filmmaker Judd Apatow once burst into nervous laughter right in front of Kanye West as the rapper delivered a special preview of his Yeezus album.

Judd recalls working with Kanye on the set of 2013 comedy Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, in which the hip-hop star made a guest appearance, and he found the whole experience rather bizarre.

Recounting the tale during a weekend (18-19Feb17) stand-up performance for charity in Los Angeles, Judd revealed he was with the film’s director Adam McKay when Kanye tried to get their opinions on what he should name the 2013 album.

“Me and Adam are talking to him, and he’s trying to explain his new album,” Judd told the crowd. “He goes, ‘I don’t know if I want to call it ‘I Am God’ or ‘I Am Jesus.’ He’s not joking. He doesn’t know if he’s more like God or Jesus. He’s trying to explain the concept… and he goes, let me just rap some of it for you so you understand.”

However, Judd confesses his reaction to the impromptu performance wasn’t quite what anyone had expected.

The producer/director continued, “He’s rapping like he’s at Madison Square Garden (New York arena), eight inches from my face. I’m so nervous I start laughing hysterically in his face.”

Judd didn’t reveal how Kanye responded to his laughter, but he and McKay weren’t the only ones to experience a special album preview.

“Five minutes later he was doing it for the make-up artists,” Apatow added.
