Julian Lennon: ‘I’ve forgiven dad for not being there’

Musician Julian Lennon has come to terms with the fact his dad John Lennon was just too famous to be a normal dad.
The Too Late For Goodbyes star didn’t really get to know his father before he was shot dead outside his New York apartment building in 1980 and admits there was a time he resented the Beatles star for not being there when he was a kid, but age and wisdom has helped him to realise parenting was never going to be his dad’s strong point.
“There was little to no relationship, to be honest with you,” Julian, who was John’s son with his first wife Cynthia Lennon, tells Access Hollywood Live. “It was probably my late teens… when we saw each other again and I think he was trying to make up for things.
“From my perspective, it’s all forgiven. I mean what a crazy life he led.”
And, like his father’s fans, Julian is constantly inspired by “what he achieved… and obviously some of the messages that he put out there.”
The singer also admires the work pal Bono has done, adding, “He’s certainly an inspiration… He really has changed the world in so many ways.”
