Kansas find a new singer to replace Steve Walsh

Former Shooting Star Band frontman Ronnie Platt will replace Steve Walsh in Kansas after the singer walks away from the Dust In The Wind hitmakers following a final gig next month (Aug14). Walsh announced his decision to leave the band earlier this month (Jul14), and his bandmates haven’t wasted any time in finding their next singer.
Platt’s first show with the band will be in Oklahoma on 12 September (14).
Announcing his arrival on the band’s Facebook page, Platt writes, “I want Kansas fans to know, first and foremost, I’m one of them. I’m a long time fan of the music and have always looked up to Steve Walsh.
“My goal is not to replace Steve; no one can do that. It is my goal and responsibility to sustain the integrity that is Kansas. This is a lifelong dream… Yes, I’ve got the job, but now it’s time to earn it… and I take nothing for granted that has been given to me. My performance in Kansas will be how I’ve always performed, with passion and enthusiasm.”
Drummer Phil Ehart adds, “After considering other candidates, it became clear Ronnie was our guy. He’s a perfect fit musically and personally with the band. His passion for the band and the music, as well as his musicianship, is exceptional.”
Walsh’s former replacement, John Elefante, has revealed he was also asked to rejoin the group – but turned his one-time bandmates down.
Walsh’s final show with the band will be on 16 August (14) in Iowa.
