Karlie Kloss is joining the push in the fashion world for more “diversity on the runway”.

For the catwalk presentation of her new capsule collection with retailer Express on Thursday (30Mar17), Karlie cast a diverse range of models, encompassing girls of all races, ethnicities and sizes, including hijab-wearing Summer Albarcha and photographer Mattea Linea.

It was a conscious effort by the model who is keen to represent more “inclusivity in fashion”, and is urging the fashion world to follow suit.

“I want more inclusivity in fashion, and for me, it’s important to stand for that,” Karlie told Teen Vogue. “On our runway, we have girls of all backgrounds. And that’s what I find beautiful. The industry has gotten better over the past 10 years, but we still have a lot of progress to make, especially in terms of diversity on the runway. I’m definitely starting to see small steps in the right direction.”

While model Summer added that she was thrilled to be part of such a diverse presentation.

“Growing up, I rarely saw anyone who dressed like I do in magazines or on television, so I feel very proud and grateful to have been able to walk in Karlie’s show,” she shared. “I hope to be able to bridge the gap between mainstream and modest fashion for my sisters around the world.”

Charli XCX and DJ Hannah Bronfman provided the evening’s music.

Prices for Karlie’s collection range from $24.90 to $168, with all styles now available in store and online.
