Famed fashion photographer Rankin is celebrating Mickey Mouse’s 90th anniversary with a new book dedicated to the cartoon rodent.
Walt Disney’s most famous creation, who was first introduced in 1928, has enjoyed a fashion resurgence over the past few years, with Opening Ceremony and Coach using Mickey and his partner Minnie’s image on their recent designs.
For his project, titled Mickey Mouse & Me, Rankin enlisted the help of an army of models, actors, singers and British TV stars, including Kate Moss, Heidi Klum and Liv Tyler, to pose for a series of portraits paying tribute to the Disney icon.
“Mickey Mouse amazed me as a kid and Disney Fantasia made me want to be involved in film,” Rankin said in a statement.
“He is much more than a character, but a symbol of optimism, hope and inspiration for people from every walk of life, and you can see his influence in my photography over the years. This book pays tribute to the inspirational impact he has had on a generation and his journey from simple sketch to cultural icon over 90 years.”
Mark Hamill, Hayley Atwell, Tinie Tempah and TV presenter Phillip Schofield are among the other stars sharing their love for Mickey.
Copies of the book, which features both black and white and colour images, will be auctioned on eBay in July (18) to raise funds for children’s charity Together for Short Lives – an organisation which helps kids with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions lead fulfilling lives.
“We’ve had a lot of fun making it, and owe a debt of gratitude to those involved. I hope we raise a lot of money for an incredible charity,” Rankin added.
Earlier this year, Heidi attended Minnie Mouse’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star unveiling.
