Kate Moss and Stella Mccartney have donated their partywear to Oxfam as part of a sustainable fashion campaign.
Singers Ellie Goulding and Una Healy, as well as Killing Eve star Jodie Comer, have also handed over their clothing in a bid to encourage shoppers to buy second-hand outfits this season instead of splurging on new garments.
The initiative comes after the charity learned that fashion lovers in the U.K. will spend a whopping $4.4 billion on new clothes for the Christmas party season this year, but eight million items will only be worn only once.
“The figures revealed by this research are staggering, and it is vital clothes don’t just go to waste,” said Oxfam’s Fee Gilfeather. “Oxfam is the right destination for ethical fashion lovers, because our shops are stocked with glamorous pieces which help save the planet and raise money for the world’s poorest people to access clean water, food and shelter.”
McCartney is a huge champion of sustainable style, and on Monday (10Dec18) she will be launching a United Nations fashion industry charter for climate action in Katowice, Poland.
“There is so much guilt and fear attached to talking about sustainability and that’s not helpful,” the British designer told reporters at The Guardian of her decision to take action.
Meanwhile, Kate teamed up with Oxfam in February to showcase the organisation’s sustainable and affordable fashion, with all the outfits she modelled in a photoshoot selling out in a matter of hours.
Aside from her charity work, the supermodel was recently unveiled as the face of the Vivienne Westwood x Burberry collaboration, Burberry’s first collaboration with Riccardo Tisci at the helm.
Kate, who was shot by David Sims in London, wears a silk shirt with an oversized point collar and a pair of high waisted belted trousers, both in Burberry’s vintage check print.
