Kate Winslet & Idris Elba Will Star In New Romance, ‘The Mountain Between Us’

British actors Kate Winslet and Idris Elba are in talks to star in new romantic drama The Mountain Between Us.

The 40-year-old actress, who shot to fame in 1997 following the release of her tragic love affair epic Titanic, is set to touch hearts yet again alongside the 43-year-old Beasts of No Nation hunk, who has been attached to the project since February (16), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Paradise Now director Hany Abu-Assad will be behind the camera for The Mountain Between Us, based on the author Charles Martin’s bestselling 2010 novel of the same name.

The story centres on a surgeon and a woman who fall in love after being stranded in the wilderness following a plane crash. While struggling to survive in the freezing forest, the pair grow more and more fond for each other, despite the fact she is engaged to be married to another man back home.

There have been several script adaptations written so far, with Star Wars: Rogue One writer Chris Weitz having penned the latest version, and J. Mills Goodloe and Scott Frank having taken a stab at an earlier draft.

Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping are producing the romantic drama for Chernin Entertainment, an outfit owned by Fox 2000 Pictures, a subsidiary of 20th Century Fox.

Kate and Idris no doubt have huge star power behind them, as she has won an Academy Award, an Emmy Award, four Golden Globe Awards and three BAFTAs thus far, while he’s walked away with a Golden Globe trophy following numerous other nominations.

This isn’t the first time a buzz grew around the potential for them starring in a movie together – back in January (16) rumours were rife they were set to play former lovers in spy thriller All the Old Knives, but the outcome of that deal remains uncertain.
