Kate Winslet left baby son behind for Los Angeles trip

British actress Kate Winslet had to be parted from her newborn son when she flew to Los Angeles to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame because she couldn’t take the baby on a long-haul flight. The Titanic star made her first public appearance since the birth of her little boy, Bear, in December (13) by turning out in L.A. on Monday (17Mar14) to unveil the special honour on Hollywood Boulevard.
Winslet has now admitted she made the heartbreaking decision to leave her son at home and make the trip on her own as she feared a 12-hour flight would be too much for the tot.
She tells U.S. TV host Ellen DeGeneres, “I have a 14-week old baby… I’m here (in California) for 48 hours I couldn’t bring him. It’s too far. It’s a 12-hour plane ride.”
The actress was also left shaken by the earthquake which hit L.A. just hours before her Walk of Fame ceremony, revealing she was pumping breast milk at the time of the tremor, adding, “I’ve never been in an earthquake. No, never. And so it’s 6:20 (in the morning) something or other and I’m sitting in the hotel here in L.A. and I’m pumping… staring at my beautiful picture of my beautiful baby boy and my husband is on the other line and the room starts to shake…
“So, I said ‘I’ve got to go. I got to call you back’. Hung up, ran into the doorframe with my friend who was with me and she’s ‘Like it’s an earthquake’… I just carried on pumping through the whole entire thing… It was quite scary actually.”
