Singer and actress Katharine McPhee helped David Foster’s daughter come up with her comments about the pair’s rumored romance as a joke.
The Smash star has been linked to the composer and songwriter since earlier this year (17) and in September his daughter, comedienne and actress Erin Foster, fueled the romance rumors by posting a picture of Katharine and her dad on Instagram and captioning it: “Excited about my new step mom.”
Erin also posted a video of David and Katharine performing together at a Grammy Museum tribute and added the line: “My parents”.
However, Katharine is now revealing it was all a joke.
“So we were sitting there at the table, and she said, ‘Do you wanna, like, do a thing?’ And I was like, ‘OK’,” she tells Health magazine. “We were in on it. She’s so funny. I mean, you saw what she wrote about ‘my parents’. Truly, you think that’s how she’d announce it? On Instagram?”
“(David and I) are very close friends, and we’ve been friends for a long time,” she adds, attempting to clear up the speculation swirling around the songwriter and herself. “I’m really, really fond of him, and I think he’s an incredible person. I’ve known him since I was 21 years old, you know? He produced my first single. So he’s been really good to me. People can say whatever they want.”
Katharine has been “pretty single” since splitting from actor Elyes Gabel last year. The couple still works together on TV show Scorpion and Katharine admits it is “still an adjustment to get over someone” she sees everyday, especially now she’s dating her ex on TV.
“Of course it happens like that,” she chuckles. “Kissing each other feels very natural. Sometimes I’ll slip him the tongue, just to be rude,” she jokingly says.
McPhee was previously married to Nick Cokas. They divorced in February, 2016.
