Katy Perry: 3D Concert Film for Summer

ALTKaty Perry shot footage for a proposed concert film as early as last Summer, but the pop star took to Twitter last night, March 7, to announce that her proposed 3D musical extravaganza would be making its way to theaters.

“FINALLY, my MOVIE is coming out with Paramount this summer! It’s called “KATY PERRY: PART OF ME” Presented In 3D!” Perry’s emphasis on “FINALLY” hints at a bumpy road to completion, but it appears Paramount feels confident in unleashing Katy Perry: Part of Me into the world.

Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz, the reality TV producing duo who go by the fantastical moniker The Magical Elves, are in talks to direct the movie, aiming to explore Perry’s off-stage of life (is this her not-to-subtle Russell Brand rebound?) as well as showcase the singer’s wild stage show in eye-popping 3D. Although concert footage may be in the can, the signing of Magical Elves to the project suggests there’s plenty more to get in the can. Sound like a short turnaround for a summer release? Justin Bieber: Never Say Never was in the same boat before its February 2011 release, which later took home $73 million to become the highest-grossing concert film of all time.

There’s no official date set for Katy Perry: Part of Me, but expect more enthusiastic Twitter announcements from Perry as the movie pushes forward to its vague Summer 2012 release.
