Katy Perry: ‘I can never match Lady Gaga’s Met Ball style’

Katy Perry has mixed feelings about fashion’s Oscars night, the Met Ball, because no one can top Lady Gaga.
The I Kissed a Girl singer loves to dress up for the New York style party, which this year takes place on Monday night (02May16), but she admits she wishes she had more choice.
“It’s great, it’s so much fun, it’s the best party, but you’re a little bit beholden to designers you know,” she told PeopleStyle at the launch of her Katy Kat collection with CoverGirl. “When I create my own costumes for tour, it’s like whatever the f**k I want to do. It’s just, like, larger than life: ‘Can it move, can it smell…?'”
And because she’s a little restricted, Katy always worries Lady Gaga will out-dress her.
The Roar singer feels no one will match up to Gaga this year as the theme of the Met Gala is Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.
“I’m sure like Gaga is going to arrive on a drone, and I’ll just be like, ‘Grrr! Again! S**t!'”
Many fans are hoping Katy’s make-up will pop – the singer has just launched a new CoverGirl line, featuring colours and shades she used to like wearing when she was a teenager growing up in Santa Barbara, California. One item is a black lipstick.
“I started out experimenting with make-up really early on,” she added. “It was very strange, my mother wouldn’t let me wear thongs but, she would let me wear red lipstick. I was like, ‘Nobody can see the thong. They can see the red lipstick!’ I didn’t understand it. But at 13 I was wearing blush, lipstick, and mascara.”
