Kehlani has finally overcome the heartbreak of failed girl band

R&B singer Kehlani is convinced her girl group PopLyfe was destined to fail, so she could have a successful solo career.
The 22-year-old Crzy hitmaker was part of the pop group, which claimed fourth place on the sixth season of TV show America’s Got Talent, when she was 16, but the band’s success was short-lived, with contract disputes splitting the girls apart.
And Kehlani had to work odd jobs to support herself while finishing high school.
Six years later, she feels sure she wouldn’t have been prepared for her new found superstardom without the disappointment of her teenage pop dreams.
“Having a great time and living your dream and then it being crushed, due to morality issues, is heartbreaking,” she tells Cosmopolitan. “If I hadn’t got prepared to get so many nos, and to be closed on so many times, I wouldn’t be able to appreciate all the heavy, heavy great things that happened.”
Kehlani has performed across North America, Asia, Oceania and Europe as part of her SweetSexySavage World Tour, and she couldn’t be happier with the way life has turned out for her.
“I’ve toured maybe, like, four or five times, I’ve been to most countries and places (and) I didn’t even think I would have a passport!” she gushes. “I get to provide for my family and I literally could not wish for anything else.”
