Keith Sweat’s Nairobi concert cancelled amid safety fears

An upcoming Keith Sweat concert in Nairobi, Kenya has been axed following the terror attack and siege of an upmarket shopping mall last weekend (21-22Sep13). The Just A Touch R&B singer was due to perform at the Carnivore grounds in Nairobi on 5 October (13), but safety fears have prompted organisers to cancel the show.
Spokesman Martin Mulwa says, “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the unexpected news. This is especially to all Keith Sweat fans and everyone who supported us. We are all shaken by the events of the past weekend and we deemed it best to postpone the concert as the country mourns.”
Armed Islamist militants stormed Nairobi’s Westgate mall last Saturday (21Sep13), killing at least 67 people and injuring scores of others. They held shoppers hostage for four days before authorities were able to get the situation under control, but the death toll is expected to rise as police continue to search the mall for bodies of those still reported missing.
Kenyan officials were holding eight people under anti-terrorism laws in connection with the massacre on Friday (27Sep13), while another three had been questioned and released.
Members of Al Shabaab, an extremist group linked to al-Qaeda, have claimed responsibility for the attack.
