Kelly McGillis ‘armed and ready’ after home intruder attack

Top Gun star Kelly McGillis is getting serious about her safety after confronting an intruder in her home last week (17Jun16) – she’s bought a gun and is taking target practice.
The actress has obtained a concealed and carry gun permit, which allows her to strap on a weapon, after she tussled with Laurence Marie Dorn in the kitchen of her home in North Carolina a week ago.
Kelly confirmed she’s no longer someone to trifle with in a post on Facebook on Thursday (23Jun16), revealing she “rushed” through a conceal and carry course and is now “armed and ready”.
“The Henderson County Sheriff’s department has been absolutely the greatest,” McGillis wrote, sharing a photo of her first target practice.
Dorn, 38, has been charged with second-degree burglary, misdemeanour larceny, misdemeanour stalking, assault and battery and interfering with emergency communication, and she is being held in the Henderson County Jail.
Kelly’s plans to arm herself were met with backlash and she answered her critics by stating: “For those of you on my feed that are telling me that getting a cc permit is not the best choice for me to make, well let me fill you in on a few things that have lead me to this decision.”
The star revealed she was gang-raped at the age of 12, held up at gunpoint during college, attacked on the New York City subway, and then raped again by two men in 1979.
She added, “I have been stalked by an ex-girlfriend who took great pains to try to poison my animals…
“After each one of these attacks I moved thinking I could find a safe place. Not. The incident Friday night has now pushed me over the edge. It has been my tipping point. No I am not a victim. I am a survivor.
“(I am) left with all the terrifying feelings of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and trying to pull myself out of the very depth of the all consuming depression and despair.
“All I have ever wanted is to feel safe. Safe in my own home…. I can’t think. I can’t eat. And I am terrified to be alone…That’s why I am going to start carrying a gun.”
