Frasier star Kelsey Grammer has paid tribute to his onscreen father John Mahoney following his death.
The actor who played Frasier’s curmudgeonly dad Martin on TV, passed away on Sunday (4Feb18) in a hospice in Chicago, Illinois, aged 77 following a brief illness.
On Wednesday, Kelsey gave a brief statement to Entertainment Tonight, paying tribute to the late actor and star of films Say Anything and Barton Fink.
“He was my father,” Kelsey told the news outlet. “I loved him.”
Kelsey’s tribute comes after fellow castmates Peri Gilpin, who starred in the show as Frasier’s producer Roz Doyle, and Wendy Malick offered their tributes to their beloved cast member.
Peri shared a picture of the actor singing at her wedding, and wrote: “Watch Moonstruck, Say Anything and/or Frasier or anything you can with him in it and raise a glass to John. Remember him well.”
While Wendie, whose character Ronee married Martin in the sitcom’s final episode, posted a picture of herself and John on set, and tweeted: “John Mahoney was not only a brilliant actor on stage & screen, but a perfect gentleman… ‘John, I glad I knew ye’ R.I.P.”
