The Oscar-nominated star was named as a recipient of the high-ranking award in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in June (12) and he attended Buckingham Palace in London on Friday for the official ceremony.
He was pictured kneeling as the British monarch touched his shoulders with a ceremonial sword and bestowed the knighthood upon him, and the actor is adamant 2012 is the perfect year to become a ‘Sir’ following the Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympics.
Branagh tells Sky News, “I am very excited. You are in a magnificent place, obviously, and as with much of this year it feels like she is there as the head of our nation and it’s for everyone… This year has felt like it was a party for the nation. So to be part of it in this way is very special – in her year, of all years… I’ve lived my entire life in the reign of Queen Elizabeth II so to receive this on the occasion of her jubilee is very special.”
