Keri Russell in talks to star in Guillermo del Toro thriller

Keri Russell is reportedly in talks to star in Guillermo Del Toro’s latest thriller.

The Americans star, who has recently landed a role in Star Wars: Episode IX, is in negotiations to team up with the Oscar-winning director for Antlers, a supernatural horror thriller.

Del Toro is producing the project with David Goyer and Miles Dale, with Scott Cooper directing.
If the 42-year-old finalises the deal, she will star as a teacher who takes an interest in a mysterious and withdrawn student, whom she later discovers is harboring a deadly secret, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Studio Fox Searchlight is planning on beginning production later this year in Vancouver, giving Russell more than enough time to shoot her as-yet-unknown role in the sci-fi saga this summer.
Russell will team up with director J.J. Abrams for the latest Star Wars instalment, in a role where she will reportedly perform “action-heavy fight scenes”.

According to Variety, Abrams met with other actresses about the role, but made his decision about Russell earlier this week (ends06Jul18). The director is also looking to bring two more main actors into the cast, which is expected to include the return of new trilogy stars John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver.

Abrams previously directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the first instalment in the rebooted franchise, and returned to take charge of the new movie after Colin Trevorrow dropped out over creative differences.

Russell also starred on FX’s 1980s-set The Americans, following a husband and wife who are Russian sleeper agents in the U.S.

The role earned her two Emmy nominations, and led to her coupling up with co-star Matthew Rhys after she split from her building contractor husband Shane Deary in 2013.
