Kerry Washington to receive Women Making History Award

Actress and activist Kerry Washington is set to be saluted for her groundbreaking career at the 2017 Women Making History Awards.
The Django Unchained star will be one of three Los Angeles honourees at the sixth annual event, organised by officials at the National Women’s History Museum, which recognises females making significant strides in their chosen fields.
Museum board chair Susan Whiting reveals Kerry will be celebrated for breaking barriers by “becoming the first African-American woman to headline a network TV drama since 1974” with her role as political fixer Olivia Pope on U.S. drama series Scandal, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Instagram Chief Operating Officer Marne Levine and Gwynne Shotwell, president of aerospace manufacturer SpaceX, will also be feted at the Beverly Hills Hotel brunch gala on 16 September (17).
Previous recipients of the accolade include Kerry’s acting peers Viola Davis, Sophia Bush, and Tracee Ellis Ross.
A Washington, D.C. version of the Women Making History Awards was held in May (17), when former U.S. First Lady Laura Bush was among the honourees.
