Kesha Thanks Supporters Following Emotional Grammy Awards Performance

Kesha took to Twitter to thank her supporters following her emotional performance at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night (28Jan18).

The 30-year-old took to the stage during the ceremony in New York’s Madison Square Garden to sing her new tune Praying alongside Cyndi Lauper, Camila Cabello, Julia Michaels, Bebe Rexha and Andra Day, who were backed by an all-female chorus dressed in white. Following the heartfelt performance, Kesha paid thanks to those who have supported her in a message on her social media, writing: “After everything you’ve done I can thank you for how strong I have become,’” she wrote, quoting lyrics from the track she sang on the night.

“Thank you to the @RecordingAcad, the women on stage with me tonight, and everyone who has supported me through this whole journey.”

Kesha has been embroiled in a long-running legal dispute with her former producer Dr. Luke since 2013, who she has accused of physical, sexual and emotional abuse, though the label executive has denied the allegations. Her latest album, Rainbow, marked her return to the music scene and the star earned nominations for best pop vocal album and best pop solo performance at this year’s Grammys.

Cyndi also spoke out about Kesha’s powerful show-stopper following the awards, calling it an “act of sisterhood.”

“It’s a powerful thing. We were there to support Kesha,” the 64-year-old told Billboard. “Time’s up on the power struggle. Women need a safe work place, and it’s not one. We’re 51 per cent, we need to stand together.”

Kesha also received praise from Ugly Betty actress America Ferrera, who tweeted the singer: “You stood up and used your voice long before their was a massive cultural shift and movement to support you. You helped create this cultural shift. Thank you for your fight, for your beautiful artistry and for this stunning performance.”
