Kevin Smith seeks Twitter help to secure music rights for movie

Filmmaker Kevin Smith has appealed to Twitter fans for help in tracking down members of U.S. punk band Squirtgun in the hopes of using one of their tracks in his next movie.
The actor/director is currently working on his long-awaited Jay and Silent Bob sequel, but he has been struggling to contact the rockers as he seeks their permission for the rights to their music.
He sent out a Twitter plea for assistance on Wednesday (22May19), explaining he had previously used their work for his 1995 film Mallrats, and would love to do so again for a scene featuring Jason Lee, who portrayed Brodie Bruce in the original 2001 cult stoner comedy, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
“HELP! Mallrats opens with a song called Social by a band named Squirtgun. I wanna use it again for Brodie scene in #JayandSilentBobReboot but we can’t find folks in the band,” Smith explained.
“If anybody knows how to get in touch with anybody from Squirtgun, please let me know! I need their art!”
Jay and Silent Bob Reboot reunites Smith with his co-star Jason Mewes 24 years after the two titular characters made their debuts in 1994 movie Clerks.
They went on to reprise their characters for small appearances in Kevin’s other films, including 1995’s Mallrats, 1997’s Chasing Amy, and Dogman in 1999, before stepping out in their own project, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
The two co-stars last rekindled their onscreen friendship for 2006’s Clerks 2.
