Kian Egan lands solo deal

Former Westlife star Kian Egan has scored his first solo record deal. The Irish singer rose to fame as a member of the Flying Without Wings hitmakers in the late 1990s and they split for good in 2012 after completing a farewell tour.
Now Egan, who serves as a mentor on the Irish version of reality TV contest The Voice, reveals he will be resuming his music career as a solo star.
Breaking the news to fans on on Tuesday (21Jan14), he writes, “Excited to announce I have signed a record deal today with Warner bros (sic). My debut album will be released on March 17th 2014”.
Egan’s public profile was given a big boost in December (13) after he was crowned the king of the jungle following a stint on U.K. survival show I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! He spent three weeks living on meagre rations at a camp in an Australian rainforest.
He won’t be the first Westlife star to break out on his own – Shane Filan unveiled his debut solo album, You and Me, in November (13), while Brian McFadden quit the group in 2004 to release his own music.
