Kim Kardashian Had No Idea Kanye Was Running For President

Kim Kardashian had no idea her husband Kanye West was considering running for the U.S. presidency until he announced it to the world.

The showbiz supercouple has set its sights on moving into the White House after the rapper declared plans to run for president in 2020.

Many fans initially thought Kanye was joking about his political ambitions when he mentioned them in a speech at the MTV Video Music Awards in August (15), but he later confirmed he was serious.

His reality TV star wife Kim has now opened up about her thoughts on Kanye’s bid to become U.S. leader, and revealed the news came as a huge surprise.

“I did not (know). That was news to me,” she tells U.S. TV host Ellen DeGeneres. “That was not a discussion in our household… He is serious and I believe he is serious and I know that if he puts his mind to something he will do his best… I don’t know if that was planned and I just didn’t know about it or if he came up with that idea right then and there (at the awards show)… It’s a big thing not to talk to your wife about, but I think it would be so much fun to be in the White House.”

Kim goes on to reveal she has been ribbing her husband over his plans as she fears he will spend his entire first term redecorating the White House: “I was joking with him, ‘You will have to make it to a second term’. Because he loves redecorating, and I was like, ‘You are going to have to redo the whole White House, and we aren’t going to be able to enjoy it, so we are just going to have to go with the flow’… He does (have great taste).”

Kanye recently said of his presidential plans, “As soon as I said that (during my speech), it was like, ‘Wait a second, we would really be into that’… I sit in clubs and I’m like, ‘Wow, I’ve got five years before I go and run for office and I’ve got a lot of research to do, I’ve got a lot of growing up to do’. My dad has two masters degrees. My mom has a PhD… I think it’s time.”

The interview is slated to air in the U.S. on Wednesday (30Sep15).
