Kirsten Dunst refused director Sofia Coppola’s request to lose weight for new movie The Beguiled.
For the film, Kirsten reunited with her The Virgin Suicides and Marie Antoinette director, who asked Kirsten to drop a few pounds ahead of the shoot.
But in a new interview with Variety magazine, Kirsten admits she couldn’t face the idea of having to slim down.
“It’s so much harder when you’re 35 and hate working out,” she groaned to the publication.
The fact that the movie was being filmed in Louisiana also made it more difficult for Kirsten to watch what she was eating, with the actress adding: “I’m eating fried chicken and McDonald’s before work, so I’m like, ‘We have no options! I’m sorry, I can’t lose weight for this role!'”
The gothic thriller, in which Kirsten stars as a shy teacher opposite Colin Farrell, is set to premiere at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival this month (May17) before a limited U.S. release in June.
Kirsten has starred in her fair share of different genre movies over the years, from romantic comedies such as Bring It On to playing Mary Jane Watson in the original Spider-Man films.
The web-slinging superhero is returning to the big screen this summer in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but Kirsten insists she never wanted to be involved in the reboots.
“I don’t care,” she said of the new films. “Everyone likes our Spider-Man. C’mon, am I right or what? Listen, I’d rather be in the first ones than the new ones.”
Zendaya takes on the female role in Spider-Man: Homecoming, although details about the part are being kept tightly under wraps. However, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last year, Zendaya insisted that unlike Mary Jane, her character won’t be romantically involved with Spider-Man, now played by Tom Holland.
“My character is not romantic,” she explained. “My character is like very dry, awkward, intellectual and because she’s so smart, she just feels like she doesn’t need to talk to people, like ‘My brain is so far ahead of you that you’re just not really on my level.'”
