Kix Brooks donates $10,000 to help reclaim Civil War battlefield

Country star Kix Brooks has donated $10,000 (£6,250) to help preserve a Civil War battlefield in Tennessee. Officials at the Battle of Franklin Trust are attempting to purchase the land to complete a 20-acre park that has been planned for years.
In May (14), supporters of the park signed a contract allowing them to buy the property from the family that currently owns it, however they still need $2.8 million (£1.75 million) to complete the sale.
To help the trust keep the land, one half of the Brooks & Dunn duo became a benefactor by donating $10,000, but chief executive officer of the Battle of Franklin Trust, Eric Jacobson, tells Nashville’s Tennessean newspaper that they still have a long way to reach their goal.
He says, “We’re probably getting close to half a million dollars. Our goal all along has been to try to get $1 million (£625,000). We can get a loan for the rest if we need to, but if we get to $1 million we’re probably good.”
The Battle of Franklin was fought on 30 November, 1864, and became one of the worst losses during the Civil War for the Confederate Army.
