The 26-year-old actress made her big entrance at the Los Angeles event, where she was joined on the red carpet by director Olivier Assayas.
While Kristen looked chic in an A.L.C. top and Sally LaPointe trousers, it was her hair that attracted all the attention, thanks to her edgy and unique new look.
It has been reported Kristen’s ‘do is for her role in new movie Underwater, which “focuses on an underwater scientific crew forced to go on a dangerous journey for survival following an earthquake”, according to Variety.
Kristen visited the salon to get the new look on Tuesday afternoon, judging by pictures of the actress doing press for the movie earlier in the day with her old hairstyle – a brunette crop with shaved sides.
Her dramatic transformation came courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Bridget Brager, who shared a snap of Kristen posing at the event on her Instagram page alongside the caption: “We tried something a little different today #KristenStewart for #PersonalShopper Gorgeous #makeup @jilliandempsey Styled by @taraswennen and #BridgetBragerHair #punky #perfectlyimperfect #getwhatyouwant Thanks @hairbyashlynb.”
Make-up artist Jillian Dempsey also shared the same shot on her own Instagram page, writing: “What a difference a day makes #kristenstewart so punk hair by talented @bridgetbragerhair stylist @taraswennen and make up @jilliandempsey for screening of #personalshopper.”
While the look is thought to be for Underwater, Kristen previously told Into The Gloss that she was interested in exploring a shaved head ‘do at some point in her life.
“If I wasn’t an actor, I would definitely do things to my hair. I would cut it more, I would dye it more.
At some point I want to do a total boy cut, completely – not a pretty, girly version – like a straight up James Dean haircut,” she told the outlet. “I’m definitely going to shave my head before I die. I will definitely tattoo my head while it’s shaved before my hair grows back… if you looked at pictures of me when I was 14 or 15, you couldn’t tell the difference between me and my brothers. I looked like a boy, fully. I really like extremes.”
