Chelsea Handler and Kristen Stewart have joined forces in a bid to tackle gun violence.
Chelsea was the recipient of the 2017 Brady Center Bear Award for her advocacy against gun violence in Los Angeles on Wednesday night (07Jun17), and she was joined at the event by the Twilight star, who served as both a co-chair and presenter at the annual ceremony.
In her acceptance speech Chelsea urged the audience to get over their “f**king” fatigue and take responsibility for the future.
“I don’t ever want to look back at this time and think, ‘Why the f**k was I sitting there on my bed? Why didn’t I do anything?'” the comic said, according to People.
“Finally I’m at a place in my life where I can stop b**ching and moaning for myself and I can start b**ching and moaning for other people. I feel really good about that, I do.”
Kristen’s attendance was a surprise, but Dan Gross, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, revealed she had approached him directly to get involved with the cause, which aims to raise funds to continue to prevent gun violence and reduce the number of gun deaths by half in 2025.
“She is committed to actually doing something, not just lending her name,” Gross told the publication.
The 27-year-old actress gave little clue to her actual idea, but she did share that she wants to shatter “the idea that it’s cool to play with toy guns”.
“We kind of take that idea and go, ‘Actually this is something else that could happen,’ and that needs to be considered by people who might not think about that kind of thing.”
Other celebrities at the event included former Mad Men star January Jones, Will Ferrell and singer Alisan Porter.
