One of Daniel Day-Lewis’ earliest films is to be revamped as a TV series, starring The Big Sick’s Kumail Nanjiani.
Nanjiani will write and star in the new version of 1985 film My Beautiful Laundrette, in which a young Daniel Day Lewis played a gay gang leader.
Nanjiani has teamed with Hanif Kureishi, who wrote the original film’s Oscar-nominated screenplay, to bring the project to the small screen.

Alec Bergh and writer/director Stephen Gaghan will executive produce the project with Kureishi.
The London-set original story revolved around a young Pakistani man and his boyfriend, the character played by Day-Lewis, who take over a laundrette.
The film, directed by Stephen Frears, won praise for its honest depiction of immigrants and gay men.
