‘Lady Bird’ Star Beanie Feldstein Wore Her Old Prom Dress to 2018 SAG Awards

Beanie Feldstein wore her high school prom dress to the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night (21Jan18).

The actress, who is the younger sister of Jonah Hill, has risen to fame since starring in Greta Gerwig’s comedy-drama Lady Bird, and took to the red carpet at the Hollywood bash in a navy blue gown with plunging neckline and pleated skirt from Kay Unger.

But the SAG Awards was actually the second outing for the dress, with Beanie revealing that she wore it to a dance when she attended the prestigious Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles.

“I put it on and it fit, surprisingly maybe better than it did in high school!” she told The Cut prior to the event. “I looked at myself and I was like, WHAT!? and my mom and her best friend were just laughing so hard, like, ‘You have to wear it! There’s just no other dress that would be better.'”

Beanie arrived at the star-studded event with her costume designer mother Sharon, and explained that she felt she was paying tribute to the character she plays in Lady Bird by sporting the dress. In the coming-of-age story, she portrays Julianne ‘Julie’ Steffans, the best friend of Saoirse Ronan’s character Christine ‘Lady Bird’ McPherson.

“It’s just a gorgeous dress, and I love how my character’s story ends at the prom, so like, for the first time I’m going to an awards show as a nominee with the cast, it’s like, ‘You gotta wear your prom dress, girl,’ and honor Julie,” the 24-year-old shared.

On the night, Beanie posed up a storm alongside her Lady Bird co-stars, with Saoirse donning a light mauve gown from Louis Vuitton and Laurie Metcalf opting for a silver and black sequin gown.
