Lake Bell: ‘We should say yes to our children more’

Lake Bell believes parents should try and say yes to their children more.
The actress and producer, who gave birth to her second child Ozzy with her husband Scott Campbell in June (17), has opened up about being a mother in the latest edition of Good Housekeeping magazine.
The Man Up actress told the publication that while she initially thought it was hard to say yes to children, she soon realised it was sometimes kinder and more beneficial to them than to continuously tell them no.
“Try really hard to say yes,” she suggested when asked what advice she would give to fellow mums. “It sounds like you’re going to create a monster, but the idea is that we’re constantly saying no, and if you turn things into a positive, everything will be a little kinder.”
When it comes to what she wants to pass on to Ozzy, Lake said she’d like to teach him to have respect for the opposite sex. And as for two-year-old daughter Nova, Lake wants her to learn to be “comfortable” with the ageing process.
“Women like my mum have shown me you can be comfortable and confident with ageing, and I hope to pass that gift on to my daughter,” she confessed.
“I also want my son to think women are bada*s as they get older.”
Lake is certainly kept busy in both her personal and professional life. She is currently jugging three movies – Shot Caller, Home Again and I Do…Until I Don’t, a film she also wrote, produced and directed – and revealed that she’s still learning how to balance her career with being a good mother and wife.
“My husband is always reminding me to take care of myself. It’s allegedly doable to do what I do, raise two kids and be a good wife, but it takes patience, and you have to be easy on yourself. I’m on a learning curve right now,” she smiled.
