Larry King out at “USA Today”

Saying that it wanted to make its People page “trendier, newsier and to have greater impact than it has now,” USA Today announced Tuesday that it is firing Larry King as a columnist and reassigning Jeannie Williams. The King column, replete with ellipses, has appeared in the newspaper since 1982. In a statement, King said: “I have loved writing my column for USA Today, and I will dearly miss my loyal readers,” But with my [CNN] show now on seven days a week, a new book coming out this fall and many projects in the works, the timing is right and it’s for the best.”
