Laura Dern jokes Meryl Streep is ‘one to watch’ in Hollywood

Laura Dern has joked that Hollywood heavyweight Meryl Streep is “one to watch”.

The 51-year-old teased a reporter at Women’s Wear Daily as she discussed the highly-anticipated upcoming season of Big Little Lies, in which she’ll star alongside the Oscar-winning icon.

“There is an actress in the new season who is pretty good, I have to say,” said Dern. “You should look out for her, I think she has promise. She’s definitely someone to watch in 2019.”

When quizzed about the name of the promising actress, she deadpanned: “Meryl Streep.”

The Twin Peaks star has also just wrapped filming with Streep on Greta Gerwig’s remake of Little Women, which is set to be released at the end of the year (19).

Dern plays Marmee March in the movie, opposite the award-winning 69-year-old as Aunt March, Saoirse Ronan as Jo, Florence Pugh as Amy, Eliza Scanlen as Beth, Emma Watson as Meg and Timothee Chalamet as Laurie.

“It was a dream for me to work with her,” she said of Streep.

She also revealed that her “complicated” character Renata Klein will go on an emotional journey in the second season of Big Little Lies.

“She will evolve in her troubles,” Dern confided. “She will be just that more her. It’s amazing being inside someone so complicated. I love discovering a brokenness deep inside someone’s ego.”

The actress, who won a Golden Globe last year for her portrayal of Renata, is excited for fans to see what’s next for the powerful career woman.

“As a mother, deep down from that place, she loves so fiercely – even though she does it in ways we wish she did not,” she added.

The HBO drama, starring Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley and Zoe Kravitz, will reportedly return in June.
