The Hammer Horror and Lord of the Rings legend will be honoured with the Academy’s highest accolade in recognition of his contribution to the British film industry.
And the 88-year-old star is thrilled to be a recipient of the prestigious prize.
He says, “It’s a very unexpected but very great honour to find myself in such distinguished company to receive the fellowship.”
Academy boss Tim Corrie adds, “I am absolutely delighted that the Academy is recognising Sir Christopher Lee. He has entertained me over many years and is a bastion of British filmmaking around the globe.”
Previous winners include Charlie Chaplin, Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg, Elizabeth Taylor, Anthony Hopkins and Judi Dench. Vanessa Redgrave was presented with a Fellowship at last year’s (10) event.
The BAFTA awards will take place in London on 13 February (11).
