Lena Headey Reduced to Tears by ‘Furious’ Weinstein After Rejecting his Advances

British actress Lena Headey was left feeling terrified and “completely powerless” after infuriating Harvey Weinstein by allegedly refusing his advances.

The Game of Thrones star revealed she had been targeted by the disgraced movie mogul on two separate occasions in a series of candid posts on Twitter on Tuesday (17Oct17), making her the latest woman to come forward with stories of the producer’s alleged inappropriate behavior over the years.

In Lena’s posts, she explained she first met Weinstein at the Venice Film Festival in Italy, where she was promoting her 2005 release The Brothers Grimm, a movie produced via his former firm, Miramax.

“At one point Harvey asked me to take a walk down to the water,” she wrote. “I walked down with him and he stopped and made some suggestive comment, a gesture, I just laughed it off, I was genuinely shocked. I remember thinking, it’s got to be a joke. I said something like… ‘Oh, come on mate?! It’d be like kissing my dad! Let’s go get a drink, get back to the others.’ I was never in any other Miramax film.”

To her surprise, Lena was invited to meet with Weinstein in Los Angeles years later, and the actress thought he was serious about discussing potential work because she had always been of the belief that he “respected my boundary” following their initial encounter.

Lena met Weinstein for breakfast at a hotel, but started to get a bad feeling about the purpose of the get-together in an elevator after the meal, when Weinstein had convinced her to head to his room to retrieve a script.

“We walked to the lift and the energy shifted,” she recalled. “My whole body went into high alert, the lift was going up and I said to Harvey, ‘I’m not interested in anything other than work, please don’t think I got in here with you for any other reason, nothing is going to happen,’ I said. I don’t know what possessed me to speak out at that moment, only that I had such a strong sense of don’t come near me.”

Her blunt remarks apparently angered Weinstein: “He was silent after I spoke, furious,” she continued. “We got out of the lift and walked to his room. His hand was on my back, he was marching me forward, not a word, I felt completely powerless, he tried his key card and it didn’t work, then he got really angry.”

The producer ended up marching Lena back downstairs to a car, all while “grabbing and holding tightly to the back of my arm”, leaving the 44-year-old on the brink of tears.

She added, “He paid for my car and whispered in my ear: ‘Don’t tell anyone about this, not your manager, not your agent.’ I got into my car and cried.”

Headey joins the likes of Kate Beckinsale, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Ashley Judd, and Cara Delevingne, who have all opened up about the bad experiences they have had with Weinstein since the sex scandal first broke earlier this month (Oct17).
