Leonard Nimoy’s family excited about new TV Spock

Leonard Nimoy’s family has given TV’s new Mr. Spock a big thumbs up after actor Ethan Peck was confirmed as the half-Vulcan character in Star Trek: Discovery on Tuesday (14Aug18).
The late Nimoy originated the role in the Star Trek TV series over five decades ago, and now Peck will tackle Spock in the next season of the CBS All Access sci-fi drama.
Hours after the casting news broke, Peck shared an image of himself surrounded by Nimoy’s family on Instagram and wrote: “Thanks to the Nimoy family for your open arms, warm welcome, smiling curiosity and support, for making me feel worthy, as I embrace and take into my heart the iconic half alien we know as Mr Spock. It is an incomparable honour.”
Nimoy’s son Adam shared the same photo, adding: “There’s a new Spock in town! Welcome to the family Ethan!!”
Star Trek: Discovery, which is set a decade before the events of the original series, will return to TV in early 2019.
In the new series, Spock is still the chief science officer under the Discovery’s captain Christopher Pike, played by Anson Mount.
