The big screen adaptation of the hit stage show, starring Academy Award contenders Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway, pulled in $4.3 million (£2.7 million) in ticket sales over the weekend (01-03Feb13).
Djano Unchained also continued to attract film fans, with profits of $2.5 million (£1.6 million), while Denzel Washington’s Flight landed in third place with $2.2 million (£1.4 million).
Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln and Ang Lee’s Life of Pi round out the top five with takings of $2 million (£1. 3 million) and $1.3 million (£848,000) respectively.
