British singer Lily Allen has blasted critics for accusing her of mocking Beyonce with a recent cover of her hit song Drunk In Love, insisting she was simply paying homage to the superstar.
The Smile hitmaker shared her version of the sexy track onstage at London’s iconic G-A-Y club on Saturday (26Apr14), when she donned a blonde wig and stripped down to a black bikini and sheer slip and had water thrown on her as she writhed around onstage.
Some people interpreted the provocative show as Allen poking fun at Beyonce for her raunchy performance of the tune at the 2014 Grammy Awards, prompting backlash on Twitter.com.
Allen has defended her performance in a series of posts on the social networking site, writing, “Each time I play G-A-Y I do a cover in drag. 1st time I did Dorothy (from the Wizard of Oz), last time Britney (Spears), this time Queen Bey. Why do people jump to conclusions. I wasn’t mocking Beyonce.”
