Losing contestant wins big prize on “Missing Link”

In yet another embarrassment for Hong Kong TV game shows, a contestant on
the Hong Kong version of The Weakest Link was awarded $23,000
Wednesday after his answer to a question was erroneously ruled incorrect.
Asked in which year East and West Germany were unified, the contestant, Gary
Chan Kar-ho, responded (correctly) 1990. But the show’s host claimed that
the correct answer should have been 1989. The fiasco touched off an uproar
among the team of consultants used to verify answers to questions on the
show. The South China Morning Post quoted one of them as saying. “The
error is ridiculous. They never asked me to screen the questions. I may quit
the team.”
