The New York premiere of comedian and actor Louis C.K.’s controversial new film, I Love You, Daddy, has been cancelled.
The movie was set to premiere at the Paris Theatre on Thursday (09Nov17), but the event has been scrapped for undisclosed reasons.
“Due to unexpected circumstances, tonight’s event for I Love You, Daddy has been cancelled,” a representative for the distribution company wrote in an email. “We’re incredibly sorry for any inconvenience.”
According to Deadline.com, the comic’s appearance on talk show The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Thursday has also been axed, but the movie remains on course for a 17 November (17) release.
The film stars C.K. and Chloe Grace Moretz, who plays a young actress seduced by an older director, portrayed by John Malkovich.
Louis, who also wrote and directed the film, recently had to defend his use of the derogatory N-word in the film, and jokes about child rape.
“We’re depicting oxygen-rich people who live in these beautiful apartments and offices saying whatever they want,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “Folks say s**t to each other. You can’t think about the audience when you’re making the thing. If you do, you’re not giving them something that came out of your gut. You’ll be making something that you’re like, ‘Is this O.K. for you?'”
