Lucy Liu refuses to give her son a nickname

Lucy Liu has decided that she won’t give her son a nickname until he’s an adult.

The Elementary actress welcomed a son name Rockwell Lloyd Liu via a gestational surrogate in August 2015.

During an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden on Tuesday night (05Jun18), where she showed off her new blonde hair, host James commented that he thought Lucy’s little boy had the “greatest name of any child on planet Earth” and also asked whether she nicknamed him Rocky or The Rock.

However, the star explained that she is sticking with Rockwell for now.

“I don’t know what they’re going to call him when he’s older but I call him Rockwell now,” she smiled. “After college, they can call him whatever he wants. They’ll give him nicknames right? Right now, he doesn’t have a nickname.”

James then went onto suggest a number of other nicknames, including “Rock-a-Tron” and “The Rock Dog” but Lucy was quick to reject the monikers.

While the 49-year-old rarely shares details about her two-year-old son, she did let slip that he is obsessed with children’s music, especially Raffi’s Baby Beluga and Charlotte Diamond’s song I am a Pizza.

During the chat, James also asked fellow guest Shawn Mendes whether he had any alternative names for his recently released self-titled third studio record.

Other than Shawn Mendes, the presenter proposed a number of other possible names, including, “Boys 2 Mendes,” a reference to R&B group Boyz II Men, and “LeBron Mendes,” after U.S. basketball star LeBron James.

He also liked the idea of “It’s Raining Mendes,” referring to The Weather Girls’ ‘80s hit It’s Raining Men, as well as honouring Beyonce with the title: ‘Bey-Shawn-Ce.”

But Shawn, 19, wasn’t sold on any of the potential album titles.

“He’s getting worse as the night goes on,” the Stitches hitmaker laughed of James‘ ideas. “I call you next time… maybe.”
