Arnold Schwarzenegger makes generous donation to fight hate

Arnold Schwarzenegger has donated $100,000 (£77,150) to help officials at a leading Jewish human rights organisation continue their fight against bigotry.
The Terminator star and former California Governor pledged the generous gift to the Simon Wiesenthal Center in a post on Facebook on Sunday (13Aug17) as he condemned the violence at a white supremacy rally in Charlottesville, Virginia on Saturday (12Aug17).
“My message to them (white supremacists) is simple: you will not win. Our voices are louder and stronger,” the action man declared in his statement, admitting he was “horrified” by the images of neo-Nazis from the protest. “There is no white America – there is only the United States of America.”
Schwarzenegger went on to explain his money would help to “advance the Center’s mission of expanding tolerance through education and fighting hate all over America,” and he urged fans to follow his lead.
“My dream is that all of you will join me in helping your favorite anti-hate organizations in any way you can,” he added. “United, we are greater than the hatred we saw this weekend.”
A total of three people died in the Charlottesville terror, including one woman killed by a driver who rammed his car into a crowd of anti-racism demonstrators, injuring dozens of others.
The actor and activist’s donation pledge, which was also shared via Twitter, has since earned him high praise from the foundation’s founder, Rabbi Marvin Hier.
“Arnold has been a supporter of the Simon Wiesenthal Center for over three decades,” the Rabbi said on Monday (14Aug17). “We’ve never been prouder of his leadership than when we saw his tweet last night challenging everyone to do more in the fight against hate.”
The Los Angeles-based non-governmental organisation was founded in 1977 and named after Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal, and is “dedicated to repairing the world one step at a time”, according to its official mission statement.
