Lupita Nyong’o in tears during Oprah interview

12 Years A Slave star Lupita Nyong’o sobbed her way through a recent round table interview with The Hollywood Reporter when she found herself sitting next to Oprah Winfrey. Asked whose career she would most like to emulate, the actress started to well up as she recalled Winfrey’s portrayal of Sofia in The Color Purple.
Dabbing her eyes with a tissue, Nyong’o said, “When I was a little girl, the first time I thought I could be an actor was when I watched The Color Purple.
“I grew up in Kenya, and a lot of our programming was from all over the world, and we didn’t see ourselves onscreen. It was very rare that you’d see people that look like me. And there was Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah and everything. It’s so meaningful to be sitting here beside you.”
Her comments brought a tear to Oprah’s eye – she responded, “Oh my God, give me a tissue… It is equally meaningful for me.”
