Madoff to miss son’s funeral

Mark Madoff, 46, was found hanged in his Manhattan apartment early Saturday morning (11Dec10) – the second anniversary of his dad’s arrest.

His lawyer confirmed Mark Madoff, who worked for his father’s investment firm, took his own life and insisted he had “succumbed to two years of unrelenting pressure from false accusations and innuendo”.

It was reported the incarcerated conman would be allowed a day’s release from his North Carolina prison to attend an upcoming memorial, but Madoff’s lawyer Ira Sorkin reveals he will mourn privately.

Sorkin says, “Mr. Madoff will not be attending the funeral out of consideration for his daughter-in-law’s and grandchildren’s privacy. He will be conducting a private service on his own where he is presently incarcerated.”

Bernie Madoff was jailed for 150 years in June, 2009 after pleading guilty to siphoning billions of dollars from his wealthy clients, including Kevin Bacon, John Malkovich and Zsa Zsa Gabor.
