Pop superstar Madonna has risked the wrath of New York authorities after allegedly failing to report for jury duty on Tuesday morning (27May14). The Material Girl, who has lived in the Big Apple since the early 1980s, was summoned to appear at Manhattan Supreme Court to fulfil her civic duty, but according to the New York Post, she was a no show.
Publication editors claim she had not applied for a postponement, and under New York law, Madonna could now face a penalty for skipping the mandatory court date. A representative for the singer has yet to comment on the report. Madonna previously attended jury duty in Beverly Hills, California in 2008, but she was dismissed after four hours.
