Actress Margot Robbie will be returning to the ice rink this Christmas (17) after falling in love with skating while training for sporting biopic I, Tonya.

The Suicide Squad star had to master the skill to portray disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding in her new movie, but she hasn’t been allowed to get her skates on since completing the shoot due to insurance reasons while working on other projects.

However, Margot has since wrapped up her final movie obligations, so she plans to use her downtime over the holidays to get back into ice skating, reports The Associated Press.

“I want to get back on my skates over Christmas,” she said. “I have been consistently under contract this year and I haven’t been allowed to ice skate.”

Margot’s enthusiasm for her new hobby is a far cry from how she felt last year (16), when she first realized how tough a task she had taken on as she prepared for I, Tonya.

“When you’re a kid, you’re fearless, but starting at 26 years old, I had a lot of fear,” she recently told The Hollywood Reporter. “I was honestly terrified that I wouldn’t be able to pull it off. We were just a few weeks from shooting, and I was still struggling to find my outside edges. I just thought it was never going to get them, and then, one day, it just clicked.”

However, the four months of intense training she had to endure took its toll on Margot, who suffered a herniated disc in her neck before cameras had even started rolling.

“I played ice hockey at one point, but this was a whole new world of pain,” the Australian star told Vanity Fair in September (17).

Her hard work and dedication has since paid off, with I, Tonya picking up a trio of Golden Globe nominations last week (ends15Dec17).
