Martin Landau proves 88-year-olds are sexy in racy new movie

First-time director Howard Weiner is testing film fans with his new movie by shooting sex scenes with 88-year-old Oscar winner Martin Landau.
The Ed Wood star will be seen pleasuring himself and getting it one with his movie wife Ann Marie Shea and a volunteer at his character’s nursing home, played by Pamela Dubin, in The Last Poker Game, and neurologist-turned-filmmaker Weiner admits he had to take great care when shooting the intimate scenes.
“My son said he’d never seen anything like that on screen before and it was a little bold to do that, but it was very real,” he tells WENN. “I think the reason I did that is because they (Landau and Shea’s characters) have their relationship and she’s losing her mental faculties and he’s lost his sexual potency but she still loves him and still has these urges as well as her love for him.
“So I put that scene in and it wasn’t easy to film but it came out very well. It’s a very tender moment where you have them in bed and you don’t expect it and it’s quite dramatic.
“All the sex scenes were difficult – there was him and his wife, the time when he gets an erection and masturbates and we had to figure out how to do it, and the big scene where he tries to have sex with the volunteer at the nursing home, Sheryl, which was very complicated.
“It was like a symphony, where if it’s a little bit out of tune it just doesn’t work.”
And Weiner admits the sex scenes called for a lot of communication with his leading man, who will turn 90 next year (18).
“Martin asked a lot of questions and wanted to know if he was going to have to take off his shirt, which he doesn’t, but he’s an amazing actor and I established trust with him and he was game,” the director adds. “I think he enjoyed the challenge. It’s not something that someone at his age would get to play again. He may have done it younger but not at this age.”
