WENN,

Director Martin Scorsese has paid tribute to Jerry Lewis, the star of his 1982 movie The King Of Comedy, following the comic’s death on Sunday (August 20, 2017).
The 91-year-old passed away at his home in Las Vegas on Sunday morning, and many stars took to social media to remember the comedian, who was best-known for his partnership with Dean Martin and films such as The Nutty Professor and The King of Comedy.
Scorsese, who helmed the 1982 black comedy, which also starred Robert De Niro, has now added his tribute on Instagram in a slideshow of pictures. The first snap is taken back in the ’80s, presumably from the set of the movie, and three more from the red carpet at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival in New York, where he attended a screening of the film with Lewis and De Niro. In two of the images, Scorsese is laughing for the cameras as Lewis plants a kiss on his cheek.

Jerry Lewis was a master. He was a giant. He was an innovator,” he wrote in the caption. “He was a great entertainer. He was a great artist. And he was a remarkable man. I had the honor of working with him, and it was an experience I’ll always treasure. He was, truly, one of our greats. Rest In Peace, Jerry.”

Lewis‘ co-star Sandra Bernhard also paid tribute by posting a still featuring herself and Lewis on Twitter and added the caption: “It was one of the great experiences of my career he was tough but one of a kind (sic).”

Baby Driver director Edgar Wright also shared his appreciation for the film by tweeting, “Didn’t grow up on Jerry Lewis like so many people so my first experience of him was in Scorcese’s coal black ‘King Of Comedy’. What a movie.”
