Shamed celebrity publicist Max Clifford is facing a multi-million dollar legal battle after a female sexual assault victim launched a bid for compensation. The public relations guru, whose clients have included Simon Cowell and Frank Sinatra, was convicted of eight charges of indecent assault in April (14) following a trial during which several women told how he molested them after using his showbiz connections to win their trust.
He was jailed for eight years and is now facing a costly legal battle with one of his victims, who lodged a $2.6 million (£1.5 million) lawsuit at London’s High Court on Thursday (07Aug14).
Attorney Richard Scorer, who represents the anonymous plaintiff, says of the legal action, “If Max Clifford is seeking a reduction in his sentence, he now has an opportunity to show that he is truly remorseful. He should admit his offences and compensate the victims he so shamelessly abused.”
