The Private Practice star divorced her first husband, bassist Peter Donovan, in 2009 before starting up a relationship with Swenson.
Now the couple is celebrating after becoming engaged on New Year’s Day (01Jan12).
In a series of posts on Twitter.com, McDonald writes, “Best New Year’s Day ever. Ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever. Thanks 4 (for) all of the sweet congrats (sic) on our engagement. We’re super happy and excited.”

McDonald’s showbiz pals are already congratulating her on the happy news.
In a tweet, country singer Chely Wright states, “Wow, super duper excited for you!”
